Frequently Asked Questions
You may be wondering...
What's the difference between single-session and long-term therapy?
Single session therapy (SST) is exactly that; a single session! SST is an evidence-based Solution-Focused Brief Therapy model formulated to assess and address acute issues while providing comprehensive next-steps in a short period of time. This service provides a straightforward, supportive space to identify and troubleshoot a specific issue that may be impacting you in the moment. This is a helpful option for the touring pro who wants a check-in while on the road and stopping in MA, and may already have longer-term supports in place at home.

Long term therapy provides a warm, comfortable space to engage in deeper work to address long-standing challenges and ways of thinking about oneself and others. Our approach combines a curated blend of evidence-based techniques including trauma-informed and culturally sensitive cognitive-behavioral therapy, person-centered approaches, and positive psychology. This is more of your "typical" therapy experience and allows you to build a strong, supportive relationship with your therapist through weekly hour-long sessions.
What topics can we address together?
We can help you address:

-
Depression & Loneliness
-
Anxiety & Uncertainty about the Future
-
Self-Care and Establishing Structured Routines
-
Attention & Focus
-
Anger Management
-
Communication Skills
-
Relationship Stressors
-
Transitions on and off the road
-
Referrals for continued support on the road and at home

Addressing these types of topics in a single-session (SST) meeting can help us establish a strong foundation for your continued wellness and ongoing therapeutic work. You might not know exactly what you'd like to focus on, and that's fine too! Building a longer-term therapy relationship can bring forward deeper, underlying themes that you might not have been able to pinpoint yet.

Why only Massachusetts?
It's frustrating to build a good bond with a therapist only to have them wave goodbye to you when your next tour starts up, and you may be wondering "What's the deal?"

Licensing for mental health professionals is determined differently from state to state. Here at Green Room Counseling, we are licensed in Massachusetts, and therefore the client we are treating has to be sitting in MA in order to receive our services even if it is via telehealth.

If you are looking for long-term support from a provider who can see you while you're traveling, you have some options. You may consider seeking out a doctorate-level psychologist who holds membership in PSYPact, which is an inter-state compact allowing license portability between participating states. You may also choose to participate in non-clinical support groups or services to maintain your wellness while you are away.
Do you take insurance?
We do! We are currently credentialed with Aetna and Cigna. Please note this does not include Medicare or Medicaid-based plans.

What are your out-of-pocket rates?
Self-pay rates are $120 per session.
We will gladly render a super-bill for services rendered out of network; this can then be submitted to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Payment is due at time of service, unless you are registered with auto-pay.
What are your cancellation policies?
Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice are subject to a $75 cancellation fee. You will find more information about this policy in your informed consent documents. You will be asked to provide a credit card number to secure your appointment, however we will not charge this card ahead of time.
